A group of friends from Garswood have raised more than £3,000 for charity after completing a gruelling Three Peaks Challenge at the weekend.
Pals Alex Kay, 32, Neil Guest, 32, Carl Barber, 38, and Ian Scott, 42, successfully reached the summit of Ben Nevis,Scafell Pike and Snowdon in just 22 hours to raise funds for Cancer Research and the National Blind Children’s Society.
Alex, whose dad died of cancer two years ago, said: “We’d all talked about wanting to do something for charity, and as we’d done a bit of walking before we came up with the idea of doing the three peaks.
“Our aim was to complete the challenge within 24 hours,so we did it with two hours to spare. It was difficult, and we are all really glad to have finished. There is a real sense of achievement, and I’m sure my dad would have been very proud.”
The group, which also included the driver, Chris Riley, were sponsored by Billinge-based Foundrygate. The company, which designs, manufacturers and installs quality uPVC windows, doors, porches and conservatories, paid for the lads to hire a people carrier for the weekend and covered the cost of the fuel.
Paula Mort from Foundrygate said: “When we heard what Alex and his friends were doing, and the great causes that they were raising money for, we were only too happy to lend our support. It’s fantastic what they have done.”
Alex said: “It would have been a big expense to us to have funded the vehicle and the fuel, so we are so grateful to Andy and Paula at Foundrygate for helping us out. They’ve been fantastic.”
